Elye Wahi Expresses Disappointment Over Marseille Exit

Elye Wahi, aged 22, became another player caught in Olympique de Marseille’s rapid player turnover, being sold to Eintracht Frankfurt just six months after his arrival.

Signed from RC Lens in the summer as a high-profile replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the transfer cost Marseille around €30 million, including bonuses. Despite scoring in his debut against Stade Brestois, Wahi struggled to justify his price tag during his short time with the club.

Patience quickly wore thin as Wahi managed only three goals and one assist in 14 appearances. This led to coach Roberto De Zerbi preferring backup striker Neal Maupay over Wahi.

In an interview, Wahi voiced his frustration with his Marseille experience. “Frankly, I was a bit disappointed. I didn’t expect to leave so soon. When you join a club, you don’t plan to leave after only six months. We had to quickly find a new situation, and Frankfurt was the best solution for me.”

Wahi further explained his brief stay, “That’s part of being at a big club. You need to prove yourself immediately. Unfortunately, I wasn’t given enough of a chance, but it’s alright. Now, I want to take my time to develop gradually.”
