Eric Roy Believes in Brest’s Champions League Comeback Against PSG

Stade Brestois faces a daunting challenge as they prepare to take on Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie. After suffering a 3-0 defeat in the first leg, Eric Roy’s squad must produce a remarkable performance at the Parc des Princes to keep their European dreams alive.

The odds are stacked against Brest, who haven’t managed to defeat PSG in their last 31 encounters. The Parisian giants remain unbeaten against French opposition this season, dominating both the league and domestic cup competitions.

Despite the uphill battle, Roy maintains a sense of optimism. The Brest manager acknowledges the difficulty of the task ahead but believes his team still has a fighting chance. Drawing inspiration from his own playing career, Roy shared an encouraging anecdote with reporters.

“In my playing days, I was part of a team that was down 4-0 at halftime but managed to win 5-4,” Roy recalled. “So, being 3-0 down with a full 90 minutes to play, rather than just 45, is certainly within the realm of possibility. If I can instill that belief in my players, anything can happen.”

Roy was referring to a memorable match from the 1998/99 season when his Olympique de Marseille side staged a remarkable second-half comeback against Montpellier HSC. As Brest prepares for their crucial encounter with PSG, Roy hopes to channel that same spirit of resilience and determination into his current squad.
