RCD Espanyol continues to scout the market for potential signings for the next season. Given the high number of players who will become free agents, the club needs to undertake a significant squad overhaul. One name linked to Espanyol is Matheus Pereira, a Brazilian midfielder currently playing for Eibar.
Pereira, known for his versatility in both central midfield and more advanced positions, will be out of contract next June. This allows him to negotiate his future freely since January 1st. Espanyol is considering making a move for him, but they are not the only club interested. Rayo Vallecano and Granada in Spain, as well as Fluminense and Vasco from Brazil, have also shown interest in recent months. Some of these clubs even attempted to sign him in previous transfer windows, but without success.
Developed at Corinthians, the 26-year-old Matheus Pereira was signed by Juventus in 2016. Juventus loaned him out several times before Barcelona acquired his rights in 2020. He demonstrated his quality in Barcelona’s reserve team but did not establish himself in the first team. In 2022, he signed for Eibar, where he has found consistency and prominence that eluded him at other clubs.
