The only goal of the match was scored by defender Carlos Romero for the home team in the 85th minute.
Real Madrid (49 points) continues to lead in La Liga. Carlo Ancelotti’s team lost in the league for the first time in 2025. Prior to this, Madrid had last lost on December 4th to Athletic Bilbao in the 19th round.
Espanyol (23 points) has moved up to 17th place in the league table.
