Everton considering loan move for Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell
Everton are reportedly in talks with Chelsea about a potential loan deal for left-back Ben Chilwell. The Toffees are looking to strengthen their squad before the January transfer window closes and see Chilwell as a possible upgrade on current left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko.
New Everton manager David Moyes is keen to bolster several positions, including left-back, central midfield and striker. Chilwell has struggled for playing time at Chelsea this season and could be open to a loan move to get regular first-team football.
While Chilwell has had injury issues in recent seasons, he was a key player for Chelsea when fit, contributing goals and assists from left-back. In the 2020/21 season, he registered 3 goals and 5 assists in 27 Premier League appearances.
Current Everton left-back Mykolenko has been solid defensively but offers little going forward, with no assists in his Premier League career so far. Chilwell could provide more attacking threat from that position if he can regain full fitness.
A loan deal for Chilwell would be a gamble given his recent injury record, but his quality and experience could make him a significant upgrade if he stays fit. Everton will hope to complete a deal before the transfer deadline as they look to climb further away from the relegation zone.
