Everton Earn Valuable Point Against Man City Thanks to Ndiaye’s Brilliance
Everton continued their impressive December form by holding Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium. Sean Dyche’s side put in another resolute defensive display to frustrate the reigning Premier League champions.
The Toffees took the lead against the run of play through summer signing Iliman Ndiaye, who fired home an excellent finish in the first half. While City equalized through an Erling Haaland penalty, Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford produced a superb save to deny the Norwegian striker from the spot later in the match.
Everton’s organized and disciplined approach stifled City’s attacking talent for long periods. Midfielders like Idrissa Gueye put in tireless shifts to disrupt the hosts’ rhythm and build-up play.
However, it was Ndiaye who stole the show with an outstanding all-round performance capped by his well-taken goal. The Senegalese forward’s pace, trickery and work-rate caused problems for City’s defense throughout.
Former goalkeeper Paul Robinson was full of praise for Ndiaye, stating: “He would get into the Manchester City team, he’s that good.” The 24-year-old’s £15m summer move from Marseille is looking like excellent business for Everton.
While Everton remain in a precarious league position, their recent upturn in form offers hope for the second half of the season. Dyche appears to have instilled greater resilience and organization into the side.
If Ndiaye can maintain this level of performance, he could prove crucial in Everton’s bid to climb the table in 2024. However, his displays may also attract interest from other clubs in the near future.
