Everton’s High-Earning Striker Contemplates Departure as Agents Negotiate with Potential Suitor
Everton could be on the verge of losing a key player in the upcoming January transfer window. Reports suggest that representatives of one of their star performers have initiated discussions with another club regarding a potential move.
Despite recent positive results, including a 4-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers and a hard-fought draw against Chelsea, Everton’s season has been largely disappointing. Sean Dyche’s team currently finds itself precariously positioned just above the relegation zone.
To bolster their chances of remaining in the Premier League, Dyche is expected to prioritize strengthening the squad during the January transfer window. The club has been linked with several potential targets, including Fenerbahce winger Oguz Aydin and Botafogo forward Igor Jesus.
However, one player who may be heading for the exit is striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The English forward has previously attracted interest from clubs such as Juventus and Fiorentina, but recent reports indicate that Sevilla are now leading the race for his signature.
According to sources, Sevilla’s sporting director Victor Orta views Calvert-Lewin as an exciting prospect who could help revitalize the Spanish club’s struggling season. The La Liga side is currently languishing in 14th place.
Calvert-Lewin, who reportedly earns £100,000 per week at Everton, is said to be open to the idea of playing in Spain. With his contract set to expire next summer, Everton may be forced to sell in January to avoid losing him on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old striker has been a key figure for Everton since joining from Sheffield United in 2016, scoring 70 goals in 263 appearances. His most prolific season came in 2020/21 when he netted 21 times across all competitions.
Former Everton captain Alan Stubbs believes Calvert-Lewin’s departure is likely, stating, “It looks like his head is elsewhere. We are at a crossroads for the next chapter of Dominic’s career and for Everton to move on.”
As the January transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on Goodison Park to see if Calvert-Lewin makes the move to Spain or if Everton can retain their star striker for the remainder of the season.
