Ex-Barcelona Star Gerard Pique Summoned to Court in Corruption Probe
Gerard Pique, the former Barcelona defender, has been called to appear in court to provide testimony in a corruption investigation. The case revolves around the transfer of Spanish Super Cup hosting rights to Saudi Arabia, as reported by EFE.
In 2019, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) entered into an agreement with Saudi Arabia to host the Spanish Super Cup. Pique’s agency, Kosmos, acted as an intermediary in this deal.
The ex-Spanish national team player faces allegations related to receiving commission payments of 4 million euros from the contract. This development has brought Pique’s post-football business dealings under scrutiny.
Pique retired from professional football in November 2022 at the age of 38. Throughout his career, he played for prestigious clubs including Barcelona, Real Zaragoza, and Manchester United.
