Ex-Chelsea Youth Player Surpasses Palmer’s Goal Tally in 2024/25

Ex-Chelsea Youth Player Surpasses Palmer’s Goal Tally in 2024/25

Chelsea, under manager Enzo Maresca, are currently in a strong position to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League and qualify for next season’s Champions League. With nine games remaining in the 2024/25 campaign, the Blues hold a slim one-point lead over fifth-placed Manchester City.

However, recent form has been concerning, with Chelsea losing three of their last five league matches. The team will be hoping to regain their momentum and clinch that coveted Champions League spot, which would provide a significant financial boost to the club.

One player whose potential absence could impact Chelsea’s run-in is Cole Palmer. The 22-year-old attacker has been sidelined with a muscle injury, missing the recent 1-0 defeat to Arsenal and withdrawing from international duty. Chelsea’s medical staff are working to get Palmer fit for the crucial match against Tottenham Hotspur on April 3rd.

Despite his recent goal drought, Palmer has been a key player for Chelsea this season, contributing 14 goals and 6 assists in 33 appearances. His impact since his £40 million transfer in 2023 has been significant.

Interestingly, a former Chelsea academy player who left the club for free is now outperforming Palmer in terms of goal contributions. Malik Mothersille, who departed Chelsea in 2023 after his contract expired, has found his form at Peterborough United in League One.

The 21-year-old Mothersille has notched 15 goals and 8 assists for Peterborough this season, surpassing Palmer’s tally. While the level of competition differs, Mothersille’s success highlights the quality of Chelsea’s youth academy and their ability to produce talented players.

Though Chelsea may regret letting Mothersille leave for free, his development serves as a testament to the club’s youth system. As Chelsea continues to nurture young talent, they can look forward to more academy graduates making an impact in professional football in the years to come.
