Ex-club official warns Enzo Maresca could face sack as Chelsea pressure mounts

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca finds himself under mounting pressure following a disappointing run of results in recent months. Despite a strong start to the 2024/25 season, Chelsea have won just 3 of their last 10 matches across all competitions.

According to reports, some key Chelsea players are growing restless with the team’s form and may consider their futures if Champions League qualification is not achieved this season. The squad is said to be frustrated after back-to-back defeats against Brighton and losses to smaller clubs like Ipswich Town and Fulham.

Maresca faces a crucial test this weekend as Chelsea travel to face Aston Villa. With injuries to important attacking players like Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke further complicating matters, Maresca desperately needs a positive result to ease tensions.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown believes Maresca could be at risk of dismissal if results don’t improve quickly. Brown noted Chelsea’s owners have shown a willingness to sack managers since taking over in 2022, having already dismissed Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino.

“I think the pressure on his position is growing,” Brown said. “These owners have been very quick to make changes, so nothing would surprise me. Recent results haven’t been good enough and when fans start voicing concerns, it only adds to that pressure.”

Brown identified a lack of defensive stability as Maresca’s biggest problem currently. “They have some great players, but there’s no solidity at the back and that spreads through the team,” he explained. “The manager needs to address that quickly to turn things around.”

With crucial fixtures coming up against fellow top-four contenders, Maresca will be aiming to spark a revival and secure his position. However, the Chelsea hierarchy have shown they are not afraid to make managerial changes if they feel the team is underperforming.
