Reports suggest that Thiago Scuro and Markus Krösche are expected to meet with Giorgio Furlani in the near future to discuss potentially taking on the role of Milan’s sporting director. This raises the question: who are these individuals, and what can Milan supporters anticipate from them?
Gerry Cardinale, the owner of Milan, has reportedly charged Furlani with the task of identifying and appointing a new sporting director for the club.
While Cardinale and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have already engaged in discussions with figures like Fabio Paratici, Andrea Berta, and Igli Tare, Furlani is set to meet with at least two additional candidates in the coming weeks.
Markus Krösche from Eintracht Frankfurt and Thiago Scuro of Monaco have emerged as strong contenders for the Milan sporting director position. Let’s delve into their profiles and assess what they could offer to the club.
Krösche’s playing career saw him as a midfielder for Werder Bremen, but he is most recognized for his time at Paderborn, where he played 356 games and scored 15 goals. He also gained coaching experience as Paderborn II’s coach in 2014-15 and as an assistant coach for Bayer Leverkusen from 2015 to 2017.
Markus Krösche’s Career Path
Krösche served as RB Leipzig’s sporting director from 2019 to 2021 before moving to Eintracht Frankfurt, where he currently holds the same position.
During his time at Leipzig, he oversaw the signings of notable players such as Angeliño, Dani Olmo, Christopher Nkunku, Timo Werner, and Patrick Schick. His moves to bring in Randal Kolo Muani and Omar Marmoush at Frankfurt are considered particularly astute.
Thiago Scuro of Monaco does not have a professional football playing background, but he has built a successful career in football management, particularly at Monaco over the past two years, following his initial experiences in Brazil.
Scuro’s career includes a stint as Red Bull Sporting Director in 2015 before joining Cruzeiro in the same year. He was CEO of Bragantino from 2019 to 2023, after which he was appointed by Monaco in Ligue 1.
He is currently a Board Member and the General Manager at Monaco.
Scuro has been instrumental in identifying, signing, and developing several promising talents at Monaco, including Folarin Balogun, Denis Zakaria, Wilfried Singo, and Thilo Kehrer.
Previously linked with Arsenal, who ultimately chose Andrea Berta, Scuro was also met by Furlani in the summer to discuss a potential transfer of Youssouf Fofana to Milan.
