Fernando Sanz: “Even with Bill Gates and Elon Musk, you couldn’t get a single endorsement for RFEF candidacy”
Fernando Sanz, son of Lorenzo Sanz and former president of Malaga, spoke to ‘El Larguero’ on Cadena Ser radio about his departure from the 2030 World Cup organizing committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and other relevant topics.
Regarding his dismissal from RFEF, Sanz stated: “Nobody contacted me. I started hearing from team members who were receiving transfers labeled as ‘severance pay’. No one told me anything directly – not even an email or message. A few days later, I received a certified letter stating the position was eliminated.”
Sanz’s exit occurred immediately after Louzán took office. When asked about who was responsible for his dismissal, Sanz expressed doubts that it was Louzán’s decision, hinting at possible influence from Tebas: “I’m not sure it was Louzán’s doing. When you take on a position like this, you want to surround yourself with trusted people. But when nothing is said and you dismantle what’s working, it doesn’t make sense. Could Tebas be influencing this as vice-president? It’s possible. I didn’t leave LaLiga on good terms, though I don’t understand why. That happened a while ago and I’ve moved on, but I hope it’s not because of that.”
When asked about the possibility of running as a candidate for RFEF, Sanz made one of the most striking statements of the interview: “Step forward as a candidate? What for? It would be impossible. Even if you put together a candidacy with Bill Gates and Elon Musk, you wouldn’t get a single endorsement. The system is designed in a way that makes it very difficult to run.”
