Fiorentina Defeats Lecce 1-0 in Tense Serie A Encounter
Fiorentina secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Lecce in their Serie A match at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Friday evening. Robin Gosens scored the only goal of the game in the 9th minute to give the home side all three points.
The Viola dominated possession for much of the match but struggled to extend their lead. Lucas Beltran had a penalty saved in the 73rd minute and also hit the crossbar late on as Fiorentina pushed for a second goal.
Lecce had chances to equalize, with substitute Daniolo Veiga missing a golden opportunity one-on-one with David de Gea in the closing stages. However, Fiorentina held on for the win to boost their Champions League qualification hopes.
The victory moves Fiorentina up to 7th place in Serie A, now just 4 points behind 4th-placed Juventus. Lecce remain 14th, four points clear of the relegation zone.
Fiorentina will look to build on this result when they face title-chasing Napoli next weekend, while Lecce host Como as they aim to further distance themselves from the bottom three.
