Fiorentina Edges Past Lecce with Gosens’ Early Strike
Fiorentina claimed a slender 1-0 victory over Lecce in Serie A on Friday evening, courtesy of Robin Gosens’ early goal. However, the home side squandered opportunities to increase their advantage, including a missed penalty by Lucas Beltran midway through the second half.
The match saw Fiorentina dominate possession in the opening stages. Gosens made an early impact, attempting a low cross from the left flank within the first minute. Nicolò Zaniolo also had an early chance for the hosts.
Fiorentina’s pressure paid off in the 9th minute when Gosens gave them the lead. Dodô displayed impressive speed down the right wing to reach the byline, where he delivered a cross for his fellow wing-back to head in at the far post.
The home team continued to create chances in the second half. Beltran had a header just over the bar early after the break. Fiorentina then won a penalty following a corner, but Beltran’s spot-kick struck the right post and rebounded to safety.
Lecce nearly equalized late on when substitute Danilo Veiga was sent through one-on-one with David De Gea, but his effort went wide of the post from close range.
The result moves Fiorentina up to sixth place in the Serie A standings, though they could be overtaken depending on other results this weekend.
