Fiorentina has approached UEFA and Sassuolo for permission to host their Conference League play-off home leg at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia. This request comes as a result of ongoing reconstruction work at their home ground, the Stadio Franchi.
The Viola have secured their place in this UEFA tournament for the fourth consecutive year, having reached the final twice and the semi-final once. They are now required to participate in a play-off round scheduled for August 21 and 28, with one match to be played at home.
Recently, playing at the Stadio Franchi has not provided much of an advantage for Fiorentina due to severely limited capacity caused by the renovation work. The club aims to provide an opportunity for more home fans to attend the match by relocating to the Mapei Stadium.
Fiorentina has already received approval to schedule their first two Serie A matches of the season away from home – in Cagliari on August 24 and Torino on August 31. The renovation work at Stadio Franchi is expected to continue for an extended period, with the goal of opening the new Curva Fiesole in time for the stadium`s centenary celebration in June 2026.
By avoiding home games for four consecutive months, the club hopes to make significant progress on the construction work and meet the anticipated deadline. This move demonstrates Fiorentina`s commitment to both their competitive ambitions and the long-term improvement of their home stadium.
