Fiorentina have secured the services of Tariq Lamptey from Brighton and Hove Albion. To gain insight into the player`s abilities, Radio FirenzeViola interviewed Marcello Quinto, a member of Roberto De Zerbi`s coaching staff at Brighton and currently at Olympique Marseille.
Lamptey`s Strengths and Versatility
Quinto described Lamptey as “an exceptional person and a very good player.” He highlighted the 24-year-old`s versatility, noting that he can play on both the right and left sides of the field. Despite his small stature, Lamptey possesses significant energy and speed, which should greatly benefit Fiorentina.
Comparison to Dodo
When comparing Lamptey to Fiorentina`s current right-back Dodo, Quinto explained that while they share similarities, they also have distinct qualities. Lamptey is stronger defensively, while Dodo excels in attacking play and making decisive passes in the final third.
Potential Challenges
Quinto did mention a concern regarding Lamptey`s injury history, stating that the player had experienced “a few too many injury problems” during their two years working together at Brighton. However, he assured that Fiorentina fans would appreciate Lamptey`s dedication to the team and coach.
Playing Style and Position
Lamptey is described as an instinctive player best suited for full-back or wing-back positions in a five-man midfield. Quinto emphasized that Lamptey is not suited for central roles but guarantees energy in wide positions.
The €6 million transfer brings a player with Premier League experience to Serie A, although Lamptey arrives with a current knee injury. Last season, he made 20 appearances for Brighton, contributing three goals and two assists.
