Fired Lazio Falconer Remains at Training Center Despite Scandal
Juan Bernabé, the falconer dismissed by Lazio for sharing inappropriate personal medical images on social media, continues to occupy the team’s training facility. “I’m not leaving, do you understand?” he insists.
This unusual situation began in January when Bernabé made headlines by publishing photos related to a personal medical procedure, accompanied by a member of Lazio’s medical staff who assisted with the operation.
Bernabé, who had previously faced criticism for making controversial gestures during post-match celebrations, also discussed the procedure and its effects on a radio show.
Club President Claudio Lotito terminated Bernabé’s employment, ending a decade-long tradition of the eagle Olympia flying around the Stadio Olimpico before matches.
However, Bernabé has refused to vacate his room at the Formello training ground, claiming he has medical documentation advising against relocation so soon after his procedure.
Controversial Ex-Falconer Still Residing at Lazio’s Training Facility
Now in late March, Bernabé continues to resist eviction.
“I feel fantastic, better than ever,” the Spaniard told the TV program Fuori dal Coro. “I enjoy being at Formello and don’t want to leave. I’m very content at the training center. Italian law applies equally to everyone, so if President Lotito wants to initiate legal proceedings to remove me, he can do so, but I won’t leave voluntarily. Do you understand, President?”
Bernabé had been living at the Formello training ground with the eagle, which served as the club’s mascot and performed pre-match flights at home games.
While Bernabé remains at the facility, reports indicate that the eagle is no longer housed there.
