Lyon’s team, under the guidance of their new manager Paulo Fonseca, celebrated their first victory this weekend with a dominant 4-0 win against Stade de Reims. Corentin Tolisso was central to Lyon’s midfield performance.
Tolisso, who previously played for Bayern Munich, has not represented France since a friendly match against Spain in 2017. Many within Lyon are advocating for his inclusion in the French squad for the upcoming Nations League matches against Croatia in March.
Coach Fonseca voiced his support, stating after the Reims game, “If he maintains this level of play, a return to the French national team is definitely possible. He is a fantastic team player, very smart, and dedicated to the team.”
Georgian international Georges Mikautadze also praised Tolisso, saying, “He communicates with us a lot, both on and off the field. He is a leader who motivates us, and we are committed to winning. He has been outstanding since the season began.”
Mikautadze added, “He is good enough to play for France, and I hope he gets recognized.” Tolisso has contributed to five goals for Lyon in Ligue 1 this season (3 goals and 2 assists), marking his best offensive output in a top European league.
Tolisso himself acknowledged his national team ambitions, “The squad announcement is something I am thinking about, of course. We will see what happens, but it is a goal for me.”
