Football Players Face Consequences for Excessive Post-Match Celebrations
The French Professional Football League’s (LFP) disciplinary committee has taken action against three players for their excessive celebrations following recent derby matches. AS Monaco’s Breel Embolo and Lille OSC’s Bafodé Diakité and Lucas Chevalier have all received suspended one-match bans.
Embolo’s offense occurred after Monaco’s 2-1 victory over OGC Nice in late March. The player displayed a banner with an offensive message about Nice, which he had taken from Monaco supporters. Meanwhile, Diakité and Chevalier were sanctioned for their actions following Lille’s triumph over RC Lens on March 30th. The duo took flares from the stands during their celebrations, with Diakité even placing one in his mouth.
In addition to these suspensions, the disciplinary committee has issued bans to other players for red card offenses. Montpellier HSC’s Bamo Meïté received a two-game suspension, while RC Strasbourg Alsace’s Diego Moreira and Stade de Reims’ Cédric Kipré both face one-match bans following their dismissals last weekend.
These actions by the LFP demonstrate their commitment to maintaining appropriate conduct and sportsmanship in French football, both on and off the pitch.
