Former Everton Striker Finds Form in Spain, Outscoring Current Toffees
Everton’s fortunes have dramatically improved under David Moyes, with the club now sitting comfortably above the relegation zone. Several players have found new life under the Scottish manager, including striker Beto who has scored 4 goals in his last 3 Premier League matches.
However, a former Everton forward is experiencing an even more impressive resurgence in Spain. Sandro Ramirez, who struggled mightily during his time at Goodison Park, is now thriving with Las Palmas in La Liga.
Ramirez joined Everton in 2017 for £5.25 million after a prolific season with Malaga. But he failed to replicate that form in England, scoring just once in 16 appearances over three years. Multiple loan spells back in Spain also proved unsuccessful.
Now 29 years old, Ramirez seems to have finally rediscovered his scoring touch. He has netted 7 goals in 19 La Liga matches for Las Palmas this season – more than both Beto (4 league goals) and Iliman Ndiaye (6 league goals) have managed for Everton.
In all competitions, Ramirez has contributed 11 goals and assists, outpacing both Ndiaye (8) and Beto (7). It’s a remarkable turnaround for a player Everton let go on a free transfer in 2020.
While Everton may rue letting Ramirez leave for nothing, they can take solace in the improved performances of Beto and other players under Moyes. The Toffees will hope their current crop of forwards can maintain their form as they look to climb further up the Premier League table.
