Former Lyon Manager Pierre Sage Sets Sights on English Football
In a recent interview, Pierre Sage, the former head coach of Olympique Lyonnais, expressed his strong desire to continue his managerial career in England. Sage, who was recently let go from his position at Lyon, is already planning his next move in the football world.
“I’m prepared for a new challenge,” Sage stated. “My goal is to secure a position for the upcoming season, either in France or another European country, preferably in one of the top five leagues. However, my ultimate aspiration is to work in England, as I believe it offers the best football environment and leagues. Even the Championship is an attractive prospect.”
Sage’s departure from Lyon came after a series of poor results left the team in sixth place. The club’s owner, John Textor, made the decision in hopes of improving Lyon’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season. Following Sage’s exit, Paulo Fonseca, formerly of AC Milan, was appointed as the new manager.
Reflecting on his career trajectory, Sage added, “The next position I take will likely be the most crucial. As Jose Mourinho once said, you truly become a coach after experiencing your first dismissal.”
With his sights set on the English football scene, Sage is eager to prove himself in one of the world’s most competitive and prestigious football environments.
