Former UK MP Praises Lyon’s Young Star After Europa League Exit
In a thrilling Europa League quarter-final match, Olympique Lyonnais, despite being reduced to ten men, put up a brave fight against Manchester United. The French side was ultimately eliminated after 120 minutes of intense play, but their performance, particularly that of young talent Malick Fofana, did not go unnoticed.
George Galloway, a former UK Member of Parliament and Manchester United supporter, took to social media platform X to commend the 20-year-old Belgian winger. Responding to a post quoting Fofana, Galloway wrote, “You played well son,” acknowledging the youngster’s impressive display.
Fofana made a significant impact during extra time when he was fouled by Luke Shaw, resulting in a penalty for Lyon. Alexandre Lacazette converted the spot-kick, giving Lyon a temporary 4-2 lead (6-4 on aggregate). However, Manchester United staged a remarkable comeback in the final moments, scoring three goals to win 5-4 on the night and 7-6 on aggregate.
The victory sees Manchester United progress to the semi-finals, where they will face Athletic Club. The other semi-final will be contested between Tottenham Hotspur and Bodo/Glimt, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to the Europa League tournament.
