Francis Coquelin Joins FC Nantes on Short-Term Contract
FC Nantes has officially announced the signing of former Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin. The 33-year-old French player, who had been without a club since leaving Villarreal last summer, has joined Les Canaris on a contract running until June 30.
Coquelin’s move to Nantes was initially planned for the summer transfer window but was delayed due to an injury. After successfully completing a trial period and passing medical tests at the club’s La Jonelière training facility, Coquelin has now finalized his transfer to the eight-time French champions.
Nantes manager Antoine Kombouaré expressed his enthusiasm about the new addition, stating, “Coquelin brings a wealth of experience and will significantly strengthen our midfield. His versatility allows him to play as both a defensive midfielder and in a more central role, providing balance to our team.”
The veteran midfielder, who will wear the number 13 jersey for Nantes, joins recent winter signings goalkeeper Anthony Lopes and defender Saïdou Sow. Coquelin could make his debut for the club as soon as this Sunday in an away match against Reims.
This transfer marks Coquelin’s return to French football after spending the majority of his career abroad, including notable stints with Arsenal in the Premier League and Villarreal in La Liga. His experience and skill set are expected to be valuable assets for Nantes as they navigate the remainder of the Ligue 1 season.
