Youssoufa Moukoko’s (20) loan move to OGC Nice has not been successful, and Franck Haise has stated that Nice are unlikely to trigger the option to buy clause in the agreement with Borussia Dortmund.
Moukoko, who fell out of favor at Borussia Dortmund despite a promising start to his career which included a Germany national team appearance, joined Nice on loan in the summer. However, he has only scored two goals in 22 appearances across all competitions, with just 12 of those being starts.
His performances in the UEFA Europa League, where he started seven times, were also not impactful. Both of Moukoko’s goals came in a single Ligue 1 match, Nice’s 8-0 victory over AS Saint-Étienne last autumn. He has not played in Nice’s last five Ligue 1 games and has been left out of the squad entirely on two occasions.
Therefore, it is not surprising that Nice are unlikely to sign him permanently. “He is training well, but it’s not easy. We have many attacking players. If they cannot perform, score, and assist… I have decisions to make and cannot keep rotating players. However, I commend his positive attitude every day,” Haise said.
He added, “We are aware of his situation. He is a loaned player with a purchase option that the club will probably not activate. But his attitude is commendable.” Moukoko’s purchase option is reportedly around €18m.
