Frattesi Reveals Personal Struggle After Grandmother’s Death

In a candid interview before Inter Milan’s Champions League quarter-final match against Bayern Munich, midfielder Davide Frattesi shared a poignant story about his close relationship with his grandmother and the profound impact her passing had on him.

Frattesi dedicated his goal in the first leg to his late grandmother, explaining, “Watching that celebration brings tears to my eyes. The news wasn’t immediately made public because she passed away before the Parma match. I stayed with the team because Nicolò Barella was suspended, and it was important to support my second family.”

The player expressed gratitude for the support he received from teammates and fans: “When I say they were there for me, it’s true. I received countless messages on social media. Even a simple ‘Hello, how are you?’ was comforting.”

Frattesi admitted to struggling emotionally for four months after his grandmother’s death. “I was extremely close to my grandmother, and it was a difficult situation to handle. I thought nothing could affect me, but when it happened, I told myself I could handle it, which was a lie.”

He also reflected on how the loss impacted his usually outgoing personality: “It was strange to see me down, given that I’m typically extroverted and energetic. It wasn’t discussed much, but people noticed. I believe personal problems shouldn’t burden others or affect work. Perhaps I was wrong, though, because talking about it can help. Now the worst part is over, and things can only get better.”
