Fredrik Oppegård Signs 3.5-Year Contract with Auxerre

AJ Auxerre has strengthened their defensive lineup for the remainder of the Ligue 1 season with a new signing. The club officially announced the acquisition of Fredrik Oppegård, a 22-year-old Norwegian left-back, who has committed to Auxerre until 2028 after successfully completing his medical examination.

The transfer fee for Oppegård is reportedly around €700,000. The young defender joined PSV Eindhoven in 2020 but spent much of his time on loan to other Dutch clubs, including Go Ahead Eagles and Heracles Almelo.

Auxerre, currently facing a challenging period with no wins in their last eight matches across all competitions, will welcome Oppegård’s arrival. The team currently sits in 11th place in the Ligue 1 standings under manager Christophe Pélissier.

Oppegård’s playing time at PSV this season was limited, with only six appearances for the first team and one in the UEFA Champions League. However, during his tenure at PSV, he was part of the squad that won two Johan Cruyff Shield titles (2022 and 2023) and the KNVB Cup in the 2022-23 season.

At Auxerre, Oppegård will reunite with former PSV teammate Ki-Jana Hoever, a 23-year-old defender who recently joined AJA on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Oppegård’s contract with PSV was due to expire at the end of this season, making this move a timely one for both the player and Auxerre as they look to improve their defensive options.
