French Striker Kevin Gameiro Ends Illustrious 20-Year Career
Veteran French forward Kevin Gameiro has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 37, bringing an end to a distinguished 20-year career.
In a recent interview, Gameiro reflected on his decision: “After being away from the game for over six months, it was time to make a choice. I’m grateful for the incredible career I’ve had, which exceeded my childhood dreams. While I considered playing for another year or two, I couldn’t find the right opportunity to continue.”
Gameiro’s professional journey began in 2005 with Strasbourg in Ligue 1. He went on to play for several top clubs across France and Spain, including Paris Saint-Germain, Sevilla, Atlético Madrid, and Valencia. His career highlights include winning the Ligue 1 title with PSG and securing three consecutive Europa League trophies with Sevilla.
Known for his clinical finishing, Gameiro’s most prolific seasons came during his time in La Liga. He notably scored a hat-trick in just 4 minutes and 45 seconds as a substitute for Atlético Madrid in 2017, setting a league record at the time.
Gameiro concluded his career where it all began, returning to Strasbourg in 2021 for a final three-season stint. Throughout his career, he also earned 13 caps for the French national team, scoring three goals.
As he hangs up his boots, Gameiro leaves behind a legacy as one of France’s most consistent strikers of his generation, having successfully competed at the highest levels of European football for nearly two decades.
