AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has admitted that the club`s 2024-25 season has been a failure following their 1-0 defeat to Bologna in the Coppa Italia final. Despite winning the Supercoppa Italiana earlier in the year, Milan`s overall performance has fallen far short of expectations.
“We must congratulate Bologna on their historic achievement,” Furlani stated in an interview with Sport Mediaset. “However, we cannot deny that this season has been a failure for Milan. We are far from where we aimed to be at the start of the campaign.”
The loss to Bologna not only cost Milan a chance at silverware but also jeopardized their European qualification prospects. Currently sitting eighth in Serie A, the Rossoneri may struggle to secure even a Conference League spot.
Reflecting on Errors and Future Plans
Furlani acknowledged the disappointment felt by Milan supporters and admitted to mistakes made throughout the season. “As both a fan and a director, I must concede that various errors were made. We need to move forward, correct these issues, and return to where we should be,” he explained.
When questioned about potential changes within the club, Furlani remained diplomatic, stating that decisions would be made after the final two matches of the season. He also confirmed ongoing support from owner Gerry Cardinale, despite the disappointing results.
Uncertain Future for Milan`s Management
The search for a new sporting director at Milan has been ongoing for months, with several candidates considered. However, recent developments suggest the club might not appoint anyone to this role after all.
As Milan concludes a challenging season, fans and observers alike will be watching closely to see what changes the club implements to regain its competitive edge in Italian and European football.
