Galatasaray Match Abandoned as Adana Demirspor Walks Off Field
A Turkish Super Lig match between Galatasaray and Adana Demirspor came to an abrupt and unexpected end on Saturday when Adana Demirspor players left the field after just 32 minutes of play. The match was halted with Galatasaray leading 1-0 thanks to a penalty converted by Alvaro Morata.
Morata, on loan from AC Milan, had put Galatasaray ahead from the spot after former Napoli star Dries Mertens was fouled in the box. It was Morata’s second goal in three appearances since joining Galatasaray on loan with an option to buy at the transfer deadline.
The game was progressing normally, with Galatasaray creating additional chances through Victor Osimhen, who is on loan from Napoli. However, around the 32-minute mark, Adana Demirspor’s technical director Mustafa Alper Avci suddenly called his players to the sideline and instructed them to leave the pitch.
Most of the Adana Demirspor players proceeded to the locker room, leaving Galatasaray players and fans stunned. After a brief period of confusion, the referee officially declared the match abandoned.
The reason for Adana Demirspor’s decision to forfeit the match remains unclear at this time. This highly unusual incident is likely to result in disciplinary action from the Turkish football authorities.
The abrupt ending denied fans the chance to see more action from Galatasaray’s new-look attack featuring Morata and Osimhen. Both players had shown promising signs in their brief time on the pitch before the unexpected conclusion to the evening.
