Gian Piero Gasperini explained Juan Cuadrado’s role against Juventus, his former team, and highlighted the unexpected nature of Atalanta’s Scudetto contention after 27 matchdays.
The match is scheduled to commence at Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin at 19.45 GMT.
This game holds significant importance for Atalanta’s season. After a recent draw against Venezia, they missed an opportunity to close in on Inter Milan. Now, Juventus, trailing by just three points, threatens to overtake them in the standings. Juventus is currently coached by Thiago Motta, a former player under Gasperini.
“I had a fantastic year in Genoa with Thiago Motta. We often reminisce about the challenges he overcame after a period of inactivity, rediscovering his motivation and composure to become an exceptional player,” Gasperini stated to DAZN.
“It was a resounding success for everyone involved. He was a remarkable player, and as a coach, he has rapidly ascended, revitalizing this Juventus team.”
Gasperini Discusses Atalanta’s Tactical Approach

Stefan Posch is the latest addition to Atalanta’s injury list, joining Odilon Kossounou, Giorgio Scalvini, and Gianluca Scamacca. However, Isak Hien is returning, and Daniel Maldini is available on the bench.
Cuadrado’s inclusion in the starting lineup is unexpected. Will he be positioned wide in a front three to stretch Juventus’ defense, or will he support the forward line?
“He will fulfill that role, utilizing his natural attributes and speed. With him and Bellanova on one flank, and Lookman and Zappacosta on the other, we can inject pace into our play. We also have impactful substitutes ready for the second half, offering rotation options that have been limited in recent weeks,” Gasperini explained.
“The significance of this situation is relative. For Atalanta to be in this position, three points ahead of Juventus and close to the top two at this stage of the season, is quite unusual, although it often goes unnoticed. Historically, Atalanta has rarely been in such a position.”
“While it’s true we have dropped some points at home recently, overall, Atalanta demonstrates significant ambition.”
