As Roma prepares for their Serie A opener against Bologna, new head coach Gian Piero Gasperini addressed the media, sharing his views on the club`s summer transfer activities and his expectations for the upcoming season.
Gasperini, who joined Roma after leaving Atalanta, admitted he had hoped for more transfers: “I was expecting more, especially as a new coach looking to implement fresh ideas. However, we`ve worked well with the existing squad and recent additions.”
Regarding new signings Artem Dovbyk and Evan Ferguson, Gasperini said: “They`re different but excellent players. Both are improving physically and dynamically.”
When asked if Roma is stronger than last season, Gasperini responded: “It`s certainly a very different Roma. Compared to May`s lineup, we`ve lost three starters and several bench players. Five new players have arrived, though one unfortunately got injured immediately. It`s different in terms of numbers, but stronger? I hope so.”
Gasperini expressed satisfaction with Roma`s focus on young talent: “The club has decided to build for the future with these players. They`re all young, with the oldest being 24. They`re at different stages in their careers, but I like them. They`re good players we can work well with.”
He elaborated on Roma`s transfer strategy: “We`re looking for players with value and potential who fit my style of play. The aim is to rejuvenate the squad with emerging talent who can also generate future value for the club.”
As Roma enters a new era under Gasperini`s leadership, all eyes will be on how quickly the team can adapt to his tactics and whether the new signings can make an immediate impact in Serie A.
