Genoa Set to Part Ways with Balotelli After Brief Stint

Genoa’s sporting director Marco Ottolini has confirmed that Mario Balotelli is likely to leave the club during the January transfer window, just months after joining. “We’re working on finding a solution that benefits all parties involved,” Ottolini stated.

The Italian striker’s time at Genoa has been remarkably short-lived. Having joined as a free agent in late October, Balotelli has made only six appearances for the club, totaling a mere 56 minutes on the pitch. His sole contribution has been two yellow cards.

Balotelli’s situation at Genoa took a turn for the worse following the departure of coach Alberto Gilardino, who was instrumental in bringing him to the club. The arrival of Patrick Vieira as the new head coach further complicated matters, given their previous clash at OGC Nice.

Speaking to the media, Ottolini explained, “Mario has fallen down the pecking order and is keen to secure more playing time. We’re actively seeking a solution that will allow him to play regularly, as he’s currently not getting minutes at Genoa.”

The 34-year-old forward has been absent from the squad for the second consecutive match, highlighting his peripheral role at the club. As the transfer window nears its close, Genoa is working to facilitate Balotelli’s move to a club where he can revive his career and gain regular playing time.
