Gerard Piqué Issues Ultimatum to Andorran Government

Gerard Piqué, the majority shareholder of FC Andorra, has delivered a stern warning to the Andorran government during a recent press conference. The former Barcelona defender expressed his frustration with the current level of support for the football club, hinting at the possibility of relocating if conditions don’t improve.

“From this point forward, we either sit down and find a solution, or we’ll be forced to make our own decisions,” Piqué stated firmly. He emphasized the club’s growth over the past six years, citing an increase in attendance from 20 to 2,000 spectators, and highlighted FC Andorra’s position as one of the country’s most significant sporting projects.

The immediate cause for concern appears to be the poor condition of the National Stadium’s pitch, which Piqué described as “shameful.” He criticized the shared use of the facility with rugby teams, arguing that it’s unfair to the football club that invests more in the stadium’s upkeep.

With the current agreement for stadium use set to expire in summer 2025, tensions are rising. The Andorran government has proposed moving FC Andorra to a new facility in Encamp, but Piqué seems reluctant to accept this solution. He acknowledged the political influence of rugby in the country but insisted that the current situation cannot continue.

This ultimatum marks the first time Piqué has openly suggested the possibility of moving the club out of Andorra. The former footballer’s investment group, Kosmos, acquired FC Andorra over six years ago when the team was playing in the Catalan regional league. Since then, they’ve climbed to the third tier of Spanish football.

As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on the Andorran government to see how they will respond to Piqué’s demands and whether a compromise can be reached to keep FC Andorra in the principality.
