Gravina: Italian Football Evolving Despite National Team’s Recent Defeat
FIGC President Gabriele Gravina remains optimistic about the state of Italian football, despite the national team’s recent 2-1 loss in the Nations League quarter-final. Speaking at the site of a new coaching center in Piedmont, Gravina expressed both disappointment and satisfaction with the team’s performance.
“While the result is disappointing, particularly due to two avoidable errors, I’m pleased with the team’s hunger and determination. They deserved a better outcome,” Gravina stated. He emphasized the need to maintain belief in the team’s abilities as they prepare for the second leg in Dortmund.
Positive Outlook on Club Football
Gravina highlighted recent successes in European competitions, with Inter reaching the Champions League quarter-finals, Lazio progressing in the Europa League, and Fiorentina advancing in the Conference League. He expressed regret for Bologna’s elimination, suggesting that a few more weeks could have sent a strong message to European football.
The FIGC President noted Italy’s current third-place position in the UEFA rankings, behind England and Spain. “We’re competing on equal terms. Italian football is evolving, but we need to change our cultural approach. We must have more faith in our talents and provide them with more playing opportunities,” Gravina emphasized.
As Italian football continues to develop, Gravina’s comments reflect a broader vision for the sport’s future in the country, balancing short-term setbacks with long-term progress and potential.
