Guillermo Abascal on Manfred Ugalde’s Future Prospects
In a recent interview, former Spartak Moscow head coach Guillermo Abascal shared his thoughts on the future of the team’s promising striker, Manfred Ugalde. The Costa Rican player has been attracting attention from several top European clubs, including Manchester City, Chelsea, PSG, and Monaco.
Abascal emphasized the importance of Ugalde to the team, stating, “Spartak needs a player like Manfred – hungry for victories, always pushing forward, and giving his all on the field. He understands that his entire career lies ahead of him.”
The coach drew a comparison to Julian Alvarez at Atletico Madrid, mentioning that Ugalde had once expressed interest in playing for the Spanish club. Abascal commented, “Simeone’s philosophy is largely based on pressing and finding free spaces. Julian fits perfectly into this style of play. Interestingly, if Ugalde ends up at Atletico, he’ll still be wearing red and white!”
Ugalde, 22, joined Spartak Moscow in January 2024 on a contract until June 30, 2028. This season, he has scored 16 goals and provided 3 assists in 22 matches. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is estimated at 15 million euros.
As Ugalde continues to develop and attract interest from top clubs, it remains to be seen where his promising career will take him next.
