Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi has offered insights on Inter Milan`s Denzel Dumfries, drawing comparisons between their roles and reflecting on his own time at the Italian club. Speaking ahead of the Champions League final, Hakimi acknowledged Dumfries` strengths while suggesting that the wing-back position in Inter`s system offers certain advantages.
“Dumfries has been scoring frequently, but it`s important to note he plays in a five-man defensive system,” Hakimi explained during PSG`s media day. “From my experience at Inter, I found that setup made things easier for players in that role. Dumfries is undoubtedly a talented player, and I particularly admire his aerial abilities, which is an area where I struggle.”
Hakimi, who left Inter for PSG in 2021 after helping the Nerazzurri secure the Serie A title under Antonio Conte, is set to face his former club in the upcoming Champions League final in Munich. The prospect of reuniting with ex-teammates, including Inter captain Lautaro Martinez, has Hakimi looking forward to the encounter.
“I haven`t had a chance to speak with Lautaro yet,” Hakimi revealed. “We share the same agent, so I`m planning to reach out to him soon. I`m aware that Inter still has a crucial match to determine the Scudetto, so our conversation will likely happen after that`s settled.”
As both teams prepare for the high-stakes final, Hakimi`s comments highlight the personal connections that often underscore such major footballing events, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the upcoming clash between PSG and Inter Milan.
