Hamidou Makalou: From Signing to Starting in 24 Hours

In a whirlwind weekend, 18-year-old Hamidou Makalou completed his transfer to Stade Brestois and found himself on the pitch the very next day. The talented Malian midfielder, who recently won the Silver Ball at the 2023 U17 World Cup in Indonesia, signed a long-term contract with Brest until 2029.

Makalou’s arrival at Brest was confirmed on Saturday, and by Sunday, he was already making his debut for the club. The young player, born in 2006, came off the bench for the final 13 minutes of Brest’s 0-0 draw against Stade de Reims at the Stade Francis Le Blé.

Interestingly, Makalou shares a connection with his new teammate Kamory Doumbia, as both players emerged from the Jean-Marc Guillou Academy. Prior to joining Brest, Makalou was plying his trade with Guiars FC in Mali’s top division.

This rapid integration into the team highlights the high expectations surrounding Makalou. As the season enters its crucial final phase, the Mali youth international will be eager to make a significant impact and justify the faith shown in him by Stade Brestois.
