In a recent interview, Napoli legend Marek Hamsik disclosed that he came very close to signing with AC Milan in the summer of 2011. The Slovak midfielder also confirmed long-standing rumors that coach Massimiliano Allegri sought to bring him to both San Siro and later to Juventus.
Hamsik stated, “I was on the verge of transferring to Milan. Coach Allegri wanted me to wear both the Rossoneri jersey and the Juventus colors. However, in the end, the moves didn`t materialize.”
The potential transfer would have seen Hamsik join a star-studded Milan squad that included the likes of Ibrahimović, Cassano, Robinho, Gattuso, Nesta, Boateng, and Pato. At the time, Milan were defending their Serie A title.
Despite how close the move came to happening, Hamsik expressed no regrets about staying at Napoli. “I`m content that it didn`t work out,” he admitted. “I enjoyed 12 fantastic years with Napoli. I have no regrets, even though Milan were an incredibly strong team during that period.”
Hamsik went on to cement his status as one of Napoli`s greatest icons, making over 500 appearances and scoring 121 goals before departing for a foreign club in 2019.
