Hermoso’s Season Cut Short: Roma Loanee Has Shoulder Surgery at Leverkusen
Mario Hermoso, the Roma-owned defender currently on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, has undergone shoulder surgery, effectively ending his season. The Spanish center-back joined Roma as a free agent in September 2024 but made only 13 appearances before being loaned out to the Bundesliga club in January.
Hermoso’s time at Leverkusen was cut short after just seven games when he suffered a serious shoulder injury during a Champions League match against Bayern Munich. The German club has confirmed that the player had surgery in Madrid and will not return to action this season.
Uncertain Future for Hermoso
Despite the injury setback, Hermoso will continue his rehabilitation process with Bayer Leverkusen rather than returning to Roma. However, it seems unlikely that the German club will make the move permanent at this stage.
With Hermoso’s contract at Roma running until June 2027, the Italian club is expected to seek a new buyer for the defender during the summer transfer window. His brief stint in Rome and subsequent loan move suggest that he may not feature in the Giallorossi’s long-term plans.
As Hermoso focuses on his recovery, both Roma and the player will be hoping for a swift return to full fitness and a resolution to his future in the coming months.
