How Thierry Henry’s Advice Helped Shape Marcus Thuram’s Career
Marcus Thuram, the Inter Milan striker, believes he has evolved into one of the world’s top 10 forwards. He attributes this growth to his experiences at Inter and valuable insights from football legends like Nicolas Anelka, David Trezeguet, and Thierry Henry.
Thuram’s journey from a winger at Borussia Monchengladbach to a central striker at Inter Milan has been remarkable. Under Simone Inzaghi’s guidance, he has honed his skills as a number 9, scoring 16 goals in 38 appearances this season – matching his career-best tally with plenty of games remaining.
In a recent interview, Thuram expressed confidence in his abilities: “If you’re asking if I consider myself one of the 10 best strikers in the world, personally, yes, I am convinced that I am. At 27, I’m in my third season as a central forward, developing many aspects of my game. I’ve come a long way and have the opportunity to keep improving.”
Thuram emphasized the importance of learning from experienced players: “I’ve spoken with Anelka, Trezeguet, and Henry. Their advice varies, but talking to these players saves a lot of time in development.”
He highlighted a particularly impactful piece of advice from Thierry Henry: “Henry always told me, ‘If there’s a specific play you like and master, you need to do everything you can to put yourself in that situation. We shouldn’t play randomly; we need to create that preferential situation.’ The more situations you master, the more unstoppable you become.”
As Thuram continues to refine his skills at Inter Milan, he remains focused on his growth and potential, driven by the wisdom shared by some of football’s greatest strikers.
