Hugo Ekitike: Playing for France is My ‘Holy Grail’

Hugo Ekitike, the 22-year-old striker who joined Eintracht Frankfurt from PSG, has quickly become known as a talented young player in Europe. This season, he has scored 18 goals in all competitions, attracting interest from major Premier League teams like Arsenal and Liverpool.

However, Ekitike’s primary ambition is to represent France internationally. In a recent interview, when questioned about his chances of being called up to the French national team by coach Didier Deschamps, Ekitike acknowledged that the decision is ultimately the coach’s. He emphasized his continuous focus on improving his game to one day achieve his dream of playing for France.

Ekitike openly admitted that earning a spot in the French national team is a significant challenge, stating, “We are perhaps the best nation in the world, places are hard to come by, and you have to deserve it. I see it as the Holy Grail. The French team means everything.”

Addressing whether playing for Frankfurt might hinder his international aspirations, Ekitike was quick to point out the example of Randal Kolo Muani. He noted that Kolo Muani was selected for the French team while also playing for Frankfurt, proving that it is possible to gain national recognition even while playing for the Bundesliga club.
