INEOS and Amorim may need to offload overpriced Man Utd forward

INEOS and Amorim may need to offload overpriced Man Utd forward

Manchester United loaned out several key players in January, including Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa and Tyrell Malacia to PSV Eindhoven. With attacking options reduced, more responsibility now falls on young talents like Alejandro Garnacho.

The 20-year-old Argentine has had an up-and-down season, starting strongly under Erik ten Hag before dipping in form. However, he’s fought his way back into the starting lineup recently under new manager Ruben Amorim. Garnacho has contributed 8 goals and 6 assists in 36 appearances this campaign.

His performances have seen his market value rise to around £80 million according to CIES Football Observatory. However, surprisingly, there’s a United player valued even higher who has struggled badly this season – striker Rasmus Hojlund.

The Danish forward has scored just 7 goals with 1 assist in 30 games, with only 2 Premier League goals to his name. His stats make for grim reading, averaging just 1.05 shots per game in the league.

Despite this poor form, Hojlund is valued at £92 million by CIES – £12 million more than the in-form Garnacho. This inflated valuation, £20 million above what United paid for him 18 months ago, raises questions about his future.

There are reports that Italian clubs Napoli and Juventus are interested in a summer move for Hojlund. Given his struggles to adapt to the Premier League, INEOS and Amorim may well consider cashing in on the overpriced striker if a substantial offer arrives.

While Garnacho has shown flashes of his potential this season, Hojlund has failed to live up to expectations as United’s main striker. The new ownership and management team may decide a proven goalscorer is needed to lead the line going forward, potentially spelling the end for Hojlund at Old Trafford after just one disappointing campaign.
