INEOS Should Offload Struggling Man Utd Keeper This Transfer Window
Manchester United currently sit 14th in the Premier League table after drawing 1-1 with Bournemouth on Sunday. The Red Devils needed a stoppage-time equalizer from Rasmus Hojlund to avoid their 16th league defeat in what has been a disappointing campaign.
INEOS and potential new manager Ruben Amorim must ensure smart recruitment this summer after several missteps in recent years, including the £55m signing of Mason Mount in 2023. The England midfielder has struggled with injuries and form, managing just one goal and one assist in 39 appearances across all competitions.
However, goalkeeper Andre Onana has been an even bigger disappointment since his £47.2m move from Ajax last summer. The Cameroon international’s value has plummeted, with reports suggesting United would consider offers of £20m or more.
Onana recently made two costly errors against Lyon in the Europa League, leading to him being dropped for the Premier League match against Newcastle. Former United midfielder Nemanja Matic even labeled Onana “one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United’s history.”
Statistics show Onana has been error-prone throughout his two seasons at Old Trafford:
- 3 errors leading to shots in 2023/24
- 3 errors leading to goals in 2023/24
- 5 errors leading to goals already in 2024/25
INEOS should look to move Onana on this summer, whether for £20m or another fee, and recruit a more reliable goalkeeper who can be trusted week in, week out at the highest level. Finding a consistent presence between the posts should be a top priority as United aim to improve next season.
