Inter Milan Set to Establish Under-23 Squad, Serie A CEO Reveals
Luigi De Siervo, the CEO of Serie A, recently attended SPOBIS, a prominent global sports business event. During his participation, De Siervo made a significant announcement regarding Inter Milan’s future plans.
According to De Siervo, Inter Milan will soon join other Italian clubs in establishing their own Under-23 team. This move follows the successful model implemented by Juventus, which has already proven to be beneficial both financially and in terms of player development.
De Siervo emphasized the importance of financial control in European football, calling for a unified system of parameters for all professional clubs. He also mentioned that Italy is preparing to introduce an independent governmental authority to oversee clubs’ financial situations, aiming to enhance transparency and sustainability in Italian football leagues.
Highlighting the success of Juventus’ Under-23 initiative, De Siervo pointed out that in the past four years, 35 young players from their academy have made their Serie A debuts. Moreover, in just the last two years, Juventus has generated €140 million from the sales of these talented youngsters.
The Serie A CEO noted that this youth development model is gaining traction among other Italian clubs. Atalanta and AC Milan have already adopted similar approaches, and Inter Milan is set to follow suit. This trend underscores the growing recognition of the technical and economic advantages of investing in young talent.
As more Italian clubs embrace this strategy, it is expected to strengthen the overall competitiveness of Serie A and contribute to the long-term sustainability of Italian football.
