Inter, Thuram Needs Careful Management Due to Ankle Issue

Marcus Thuram has only partially recovered from the ankle problem he sustained, and this was evident again last night. Despite scoring a goal and demonstrating great sacrifice, his movement wasn’t as fluid as usual when he’s in top form. Thuram is known for his speed and agility, but in Rotterdam, he appeared labored and restricted, as if carrying a weight, likely due to pain or discomfort.

Therefore, Thuram hasn’t fully recovered because of two main factors: first, the packed schedule hasn’t allowed him time to heal, and second, the unreliable backup players mean he’s often needed on the field even when not fully fit. This led to him playing against Torino when he wasn’t in optimal condition, and the same situation repeated against Napoli and Feyenoord.

NEEDS MANAGEMENT – Thuram is gritting his teeth, but he might now deserve a break. Inter’s next two matches (which shouldn’t be underestimated) could lead Inzaghi to rest the French forward. Inter will first face Monza at home (February 8th) and then the return leg against Feyenoord (March 11th), also at San Siro. For different reasons, both games suggest resting Thuram, with the clear aim of having him in the best possible condition for the match against Atalanta in Bergamo on March 16th.

Following that, there’s an international break, which the player is expected to attend, hopefully with more positive signs from his still painful ankle. Inzaghi himself candidly admitted in a press conference that the striker is managing some discomfort. This is why Thuram needs to be managed carefully, hoping to give him the necessary recovery time, although given the schedule, it’s not guaranteed to happen.
