Following Inter Milan`s devastating 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final, coach Simone Inzaghi has expressed uncertainty about his future with the club. The match, which took place in Munich, saw PSG dominate from start to finish, with goals from Achraf Hakimi, Desiré Doué (2), Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Senny Mayulu.
Inzaghi admitted that the team`s performance was uncharacteristic: “It didn`t seem like my Inter out there. We`re the first to acknowledge that. However, I`m still proud of what these players have achieved on our journey here.” He conceded that PSG was the superior team on the night and deserved their victory.
The coach highlighted the poor start to the match, which saw Inter concede early and subsequently lose their shape, making it easier for PSG to exploit. Despite the bitter disappointment of the loss, Inzaghi emphasized that it doesn`t negate the team`s accomplishments in reaching the final.
This result means Inter ends the season without any trophies, having narrowly missed out on the Serie A title and lost in both the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana. Nevertheless, Inzaghi praised his players` efforts throughout the season, telling them to hold their heads high despite the disappointment.
When questioned about his future at Inter, Inzaghi was non-committal: “We`ll discuss things with the club in the coming days. Right now, the disappointment is too fresh to think clearly. There will be time for calm discussions with the club leadership.”
Inzaghi also addressed tactical decisions during the match, including the absence of Davide Frattesi from the pitch and the challenges posed by PSG`s high press. He acknowledged that Inter struggled to implement their usual playing style and failed to adapt effectively to PSG`s tactics.
As Inter looks to regroup from this setback, all eyes will be on the club`s next moves and whether Inzaghi will continue to lead the team into the next season.
