Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi anticipates a demanding match against Feyenoord in their upcoming Champions League away game. He emphasized the intense atmosphere at De Kuip stadium and highlighted Feyenoord’s previous victories against strong teams like Bayern Munich and AC Milan this season.
The Nerazzurri are set to play Feyenoord in Rotterdam for the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie, with the return leg scheduled at San Siro the following week.
Inzaghi: Feyenoord is Strong, They Defeated Milan
Inzaghi described Feyenoord as a physically robust and unpredictable team, especially considering their recent coaching change. He pointed out their proven ability to defeat major European clubs this season.
During the pre-match press conference, Inzaghi stated, “They are a physical team with significant quality.”

Inzaghi recalled his past experience playing at De Kuip with Lazio in 2000, describing it as a “fiery atmosphere.” He acknowledged the challenging environment as a coach.
He further commented on Feyenoord’s quality, noting their strong league performance despite a recent draw. He reiterated their Champions League achievements, mentioning Bayern Munich’s defeat and Milan’s elimination by Feyenoord. Inzaghi stressed the importance of focusing on the first leg, despite knowing there is a second game to play.
“We are aware of the two legs, but the team understands the importance of a strong performance in the first match to advance. We need to play exceptionally well. I am still considering the optimal strategy to ensure the team performs at its best. We have some lineup challenges, but I am seeing great determination from everyone,” Inzaghi added.

Feyenoord’s weekend league game against Groningen was postponed to allow them full preparation for the Champions League return leg at San Siro.
Inzaghi agreed with this decision, saying, “They were able to postpone their league game, and I believe it was the right decision. A Champions League round of 16 match is significant, so it is appropriate for Feyenoord to take this step.”
Injury Update for Inter
Inzaghi also provided updates on Inter’s squad injuries before the Champions League match in the Netherlands.
Federico Dimarco, Carlos Augusto, Nicola Zalewski, and Matteo Darmian are unavailable due to injuries. This situation might require Alessandro Bastoni to play as a left wing-back.

“We are facing some difficulties in a specific area of the field. Besides Dimarco, Zalewski, Carlos Augusto, and Darmian are also out. We are short of players in that position, so either Bastoni or Acerbi might have to fill in. However, our game plan remains unchanged. We are here for a Champions League knockout match and will give our best,” he explained.
Regarding Marcus Thuram and Hakan Calhanoglu’s fitness, Inzaghi mentioned:
“Thuram completed full training, and Calhanoglu trained with the team this morning. Midfield is the area where I have the most options as everyone is fit, while for other positions, decisions will be made tomorrow morning.”
Finally, about Yann Sommer, who recently had finger surgery, Inzaghi said: “He had a finger issue, but he trained well yesterday and today. We are pleased, but I am planning with Martinez for tomorrow’s game.”
