Ipswich Town Nears Ben Godfrey Signing, Bids £16m for “Explosive” Ben Doak

Ipswich Town is on the verge of securing their first January transfer window signing, with Ben Godfrey set to join on loan from Atalanta. The defender, who has struggled for playing time in Italy, is expected to complete his medical and finalize the move to Portman Road soon.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ipswich has reached an agreement with Atalanta for a loan deal until the end of the season. Godfrey, who has Premier League experience, could provide a boost to Ipswich’s defense as they aim to tighten up at the back.

In addition to the Godfrey deal, Ipswich has also made a bold move for Liverpool winger Ben Doak. The Athletic reports that the club has submitted a £16 million offer for the Scottish youngster, who is currently on loan at Middlesbrough. However, Liverpool has rejected the bid, preferring Doak to continue his development at Middlesbrough for the remainder of the season.

Doak, described as “explosive” by Aston Villa’s John McGinn, has impressed during his loan spell at Middlesbrough, contributing goals and assists to help the team’s playoff push. The 18-year-old has made 21 appearances for Boro, scoring twice and providing six assists.

Despite Liverpool’s reluctance to sell, Ipswich may consider improving their offer for Doak. The young winger is highly regarded at Anfield, having already made 10 appearances for the first team. Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna is keen to strengthen his squad as the club looks to secure their Premier League status.

With Crystal Palace also showing interest in Doak, having reportedly made a £15 million bid, Ipswich faces competition for the talented youngster’s signature. As the January transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen whether Ipswich will return with an improved offer or turn their attention to other targets.
