Ipswich Town target midfield upgrade as Kamara pursuit threatens Morsy’s position

Ipswich Town are reportedly in the hunt for Rennes midfielder Glen Kamara, a move that could significantly impact club captain Sam Morsy’s role in the team. The Tractor Boys, currently battling relegation in the Premier League, are looking to bolster their squad during the January transfer window.

According to French publication L’Equipe, Ipswich face competition from several clubs, including Middlesbrough, Southampton, and Turkish side Trabzonspor, for Kamara’s signature. The Finnish international only joined Rennes from Leeds United last summer but could be set for a quick return to England.

Kamara’s potential arrival would likely spell bad news for Morsy, who has struggled to adapt to the demands of Premier League football. While the Egyptian has been a regular starter, his performances have been inconsistent, with statistics highlighting his difficulties in winning duels and maintaining possession.

In contrast, Kamara has shown impressive form for both Leeds in the Championship last season and Rennes in Ligue 1 this term. The 29-year-old boasts superior pass completion rates and has proven more adept at retaining possession and winning physical battles in midfield.

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna may view Kamara as the upgrade needed to help steer the club clear of relegation. The former Arsenal youth player’s strength in duels and ability to protect the ball could provide much-needed stability in the center of the park.

While no details regarding a potential transfer fee or Rennes’ willingness to sell have been revealed, Ipswich’s interest in Kamara signals their intent to strengthen key areas of the squad. Should the move materialize, it could see Morsy’s playing time significantly reduced in the second half of the season.

As the January transfer window progresses, Ipswich fans will be eagerly watching to see if the club can secure Kamara’s services and bolster their chances of Premier League survival.
