Iraola could unlock Solanke’s potential at Tottenham
Tottenham’s recent defeat to Fulham has left them 10 points behind Bournemouth and on the fringes of the Premier League’s top half. With domestic success looking increasingly unlikely this season, manager Ange Postecoglou finds himself under mounting pressure.
According to reports, Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is one of the leading candidates to potentially replace Postecoglou at Spurs. The 42-year-old Spaniard has impressed since taking charge at Bournemouth last summer, guiding them to 10th place and just 5 points off the top four.
Iraola’s attacking tactics have been key to Bournemouth’s success. They rank second in the league for expected goals, suggesting they are creating plenty of chances even if their finishing has been inconsistent.
This attacking approach could be particularly beneficial for Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke. The England international thrived under Iraola at Bournemouth last season, scoring 19 Premier League goals. However, since his £65 million move to Spurs, Solanke has struggled for consistency, netting just 7 times in 20 league appearances.
Reuniting with Iraola could help Solanke rediscover his best form. The Bournemouth manager previously hailed Solanke as a “complete number nine” who is “good for any system”. With Iraola’s track record of getting the best out of Solanke, appointing him as Tottenham’s next manager could unlock the striker’s full potential.
While Postecoglou retains support for now, Tottenham’s form in the coming weeks will be crucial. If results don’t improve, chairman Daniel Levy may be tempted to make a change. Given Iraola’s impressive work at Bournemouth, including his ability to maximize Solanke’s talents, he could prove to be an ideal replacement to take Tottenham to the next level.
